Along the waters of Lake Superior is the Keweenaw Peninsula and a mysterious phenomenon that have memsmerized people. All one must do when on the sands of Bete Grite is to press your palms down hard on the sand and rub, and then…
I've been on several sand dunes in the West that "sing"--when the conditions are exactly right sliding sand sets up an amazing harmonic resonance. It's beyond cool :)
Ok, now I’m upset that I used to live in the Upper Peninsula and camp in the Keweenaw every summer, and no one told me about this legend until now! This is the kind of stuff that I love!
That’s very cool. I’m going to insist we visit Bete Grite next time we go up there now.
I am interested in the Legend of Bete Grite and would like to write a short story around it. Do you know if the native american tribe story is written any where? So far my searching not finding any native American resources. Also do you know what tribe the story is from? David
I didn't find much in regards to the legend either. It was mostly mentioned in passing and not really elaborated. Someone might have started saying that's why the sands sing because it makes for a cool story.
Um.. I want to try making the sands sing! Also, the image of smoke rolling off of blueberry bogs sounds really beautiful for some reason.
I'm plotting a visit there some time in the future to try. I'll be sure to record a video of my attempt.
I can’t wait! You are really starting to make me want to come to Michigan, you should be getting money from the travel bureau or something 😂
I swear I am slowly becoming a travel writer with this. LOL
Hey the travel writers on here seem to do really well! I say go for it!
I wanna make the sand sing too!
Do you live in Michigan? It seems like a pretty cool place.
Same. I'm gonna have to plan a trip this summer. Something tells me right now it's a little hard to make sand sing. XD

It's a cool phenomenon, and I want to go check it out myself one day.

One thing I want to plan now that I'm writing about stuff like this in Michigan is going to the places and seeing them for myself.
What a cool phenomenon! And I love the legend that goes along with this site.
Whenever I get up there, I'll keep my eye open for a ghostly maiden.
I had never heard of either before and I find it fascinating how each place has local legends.
I agree. =D
Very interesting!! I'm ready to visit.
Me too!
