Who is the ghostly lady in blue that haunts its bridge?
WELCOME MYTH HUNTERS,
Today we are going to dive into the Denton Road Mystery.
Before I dive into the mystery, I just want to take a moment to say thank you for being generous and for all the different kinds of help you’ve given me and my husband. From spreading the word to offering advice to buying a book or metaphorical coffee/tea, you’ve made this difficult time easier to bear. Once hubby gets a new job and our situation stabilizes, I want to do something special for you. What exactly is a future me problem. For now…
Thank you.

In Canton, Michigan there is a short stretch of road with a deadly mystery. People who walk it say they hear the wail of a baby. Strange lights have been seen. There is a woman with a ghostly blue hue. Sometimes she is seen with a lantern, crossing the one-lane bridge. Others have seen her soaking wet. Sometimes she has a baby. Who is this ghost. What is her tale?
THE BLUE LADY OF DENTON ROAD
Similar to the Ada Witch, the legend surrounding Denton Road is one of betrayal and murder. Sometime in the first half of the 19th century, woman is caught cheating, enraging her husband. He murderers her lover with an ax and then turns on her. The woman grabs her baby and runs to the bridge on Denton Road to hide under it, but the lantern she has as well gives her away and she is murdered. What happened to the baby? That is not part of the legend. Nor do we know the woman, her husband, and lover’s name, and there are no records of such an incident occurring.
While we can’t confirm if anyone in the legend was real, there have been plenty of strange encounters at Denton Road by the bridge. Along with the infant wails, strange lights, and woman in blue, people claim their car windows fog up for now reason and have seen tiny infant-sized footprints. Dark figures are seen and phantom lights rise out of the river. Vehicles seem to speed up of their own accord when crossing the bridge.
BUT NOT ALL ENCOUNTERS…
Denton Road’s popularity with ghost hunters drew out pranksters as well. During the 1960s, a couple of young men drove up and down the road with lanterns attached to fishing poles to fake ghostly orbs. Their gig almost came to an end one night when a police car got stuck in the mud, but they hid their props before going to help the officer.
A local college’s fraternity would drop pledges off around Denton Road and tell them to find a hidden lantern that would help them get back to college. Then the fraternity member would drive off, leaving the pledge stranded in the dark. It resulted in drivers seeing strange lights in the cornfields, scaring them into believing they were witnessing ghosts lights and not a fraternity pledge
Mischievous teenagers have also hidden under the bridge at night and imitated babies crying when they knew ghost hunters were in the area.
THE MYSTERY ENDURES
The Denton Road Mystery is another legend that has endured. Over 150 years later, people are still telling its sad tale and looking for answers. Despite the pranks, people have experienced paranormal activity. Something unknown appears to be lurking there. Even as the area turns from a lonely stretch of road and into a residential area and the wooden bridge has been replaced by concrete.

I wonder how many of those pledges saw spooky stuff?
I wrote a piece about the popular Ghost Walk in Niagara On The Lake in Ontario, Canada. There is a story about ghost lights from the gazebo at Lake Ontario and people have seen a ghostly woman walking up and down the beach, crying. Interesting how some ghost stories are similar. Thanks for sharing!
