Learn A Word: Podsnappery
Grow your vocabulary and impress/weird people out with your knowledge.
Welcome to Learn A Word in 100 Words.
Here I will share a word, one that may have fallen out of vernacular or is just unusual. I’ll give you the definition and then share a story I wrote using the word in 100 words.
I challenge you to write something using the word as well.
It can be a single sentence, a 100-word drabble, or a longer story. Or if writing isn’t your jam and you’re inspired another way, go nuts. Stretch your creative muscles and show me what you’ve got!
But first…
Are you a new visitor to Twisting the Myths? Join me and over 500 myth hunters to enjoy a drabble like the one below, discover more mysteries and monsters, or crafting inspiration.
PODSNAPPERY
1: An attitude toward life marked by complacency and a refusal to recognize unpleasant facts
How childish would it be to plug my ears and close my eyes? Mary was seriously tempted. She held off, though. Instead, she took a deep breath and looked her brother, Ricky in the eyes.
“You’re lying.” Yes, a more mature approach. One that showed she wasn’t a baby anymore.
Ricky wrinkled his nose. “I saw Mom and Dad hiding them! You have to believe me. ”
“No, I don’t.” Tears began to pool in Mary’s eyes and she shook. So much for being a big girl. She held fast to her podsnappery. “Santa is real. I know he is.”
Fun fact:
When I looked up the meaning in the Oxford English Dictionary, it said podsnappery has fewer than 0.01 occurrences per million words in modern English.

“What do you mean, you believe in sea dragons? They’re a myth!”
“Dude, I *am* one!”
“That’s one hell of a podsnappery you’ve got going on there.”
“You don’t know the half of it. I also found the Holy Grail.”
“What? Blink twice if you need help…”
Her podsnappery was extreme; it went far beyond making lemons out of lemonade into the realm of outright denial.
Or...His podsnappery of his wife's excessive drinking wasn't doing either of them any good.
