WHAT ARE WE DISCOVERING THIS MONTH?
I don’t want to give this news.
Nessie is totally a Great Lakes girl!
Collect the next scavenger hunt word.
(Actually, non-writing news.)
Recently, my father-in-law was diagnosed with cancer and passed away last Thursday. My husband and I are down South right now, helping his mother out. I will be slow to any replies for the time being.
The Great Lakes are called great for a reason. They are huge! Gigantic. Massive. So, of course, there HAS to be a sea monster hiding in its depths. Many large, snake-like creatures have been reported in the Great Lakes over the years. The most well-known is Pressie, a giant monster with a whale-like tail, horse-like head, and long neck.
Pressie was first sighted in the 1800s. A man fell off his yacht after hitting a rock and claimed a large creature attacked him. In 1977, a photo of Pressie was taken, but it’s blurry. Of course! Getting good evidence is hard! Even today.
Some speculate that Pressie sightings are just lake sturgeons. These fish can grow over six feet in length. They can easily be considered sea monsters themselves! Lake Superior is certainly large enough to house giant monsters.
For comparison, Loch Ness spans a surface area of 56 km2, contains up to 7.45 km3 of water, and reaches a maximum depth of 230 meters.
Lake Superior, on the other hand, covers a surface area of 82,100 km2, contains up to 12,100 km3 of water, and has a depth of 406.3 meters.
Loch Ness is tiny. I’m honestly not sure how Nessie is hiding there. But the Great Lakes, I can believe it. What do you think?

I hope you enjoyed meeting Pressie.
DO YOU BELIEVE MONSTERS LURK IN THE GREAT LAKES?
Let’s chat about it, and maybe I’ll have a new sea monster to showcase in a future newsletter. Until next time, stay spooked.
